In short

What is a leadership course?

A leadership course is a structured group programme that teaches the practical skills of leading people — communication, feedback, delegation, conflict and decision-making — through frameworks, discussion and practice on real situations. Leadership courses in Dubai from Start With You run in cohorts of six to twelve managers, over a half day to six weeks, with certificates for every participant.

Every course is built around the Strength Deployment Inventory® (SDI®) assessment, so participants leave with a shared vocabulary for difference and a personal profile they keep using long after the last session.

Who it's for

Leadership and management courses for the layer that carries culture

Most organisations promote strong performers and hope leadership follows. These programmes close that gap deliberately.

01

Newly promoted managers

First-time leaders moving from doing the work to being accountable for it, usually without a handover on how.

02

Mid-level leaders

Managers of managers, for whom an advanced leadership and management course is about influence rather than instruction.

03

High-potential employees

People being prepared for leadership before the title arrives, so the step up is less abrupt.

04

Intact teams

A leadership group that needs one shared language for difference, feedback and disagreement.

05

Technical experts

Specialists in finance, engineering or medicine whose credibility is technical and whose challenge is people.

06

Family businesses

Next-generation leaders taking on responsibility inside a business where relationships and roles overlap.

The method

Frameworks you use on Monday

Many leadership courses fail for a predictable reason: they teach concepts in a room and leave application to chance. These programmes are built the other way round.

Every module opens with the SDI® lens — what drives each participant, which strengths they overdo, and how they change through the three stages of conflict. That gives a cohort a shared, non-judgemental vocabulary within the first hour, which is what makes honest discussion possible for the rest of the programme.

From there each module pairs one framework with participants’ live situations: the underperformer, the peer who resists, the meeting that never decides anything. People leave with a decision made, not just a handout.

Individually we can make a difference, but together we can change the world.

The curriculum

Leadership course modules

This leadership skills training course is built from six modules. A four-module cohort typically takes the first four; the six-module programme runs the full set.

01 Module 1 — Knowing how you lead

Self-awareness as the foundation, using the SDI® profile.

  • Your motives, strengths and overdone strengths
  • How your leadership changes under pressure
  • The gap between intention and impact
  • Personal profile debriefed and kept

Adapting message and delivery to the person in front of you.

  • Reading motive rather than personality
  • Delivering feedback people can act on
  • Listening for what isn’t being said
  • Difficult messages without damage

The stage-by-stage anatomy of conflict, and how to interrupt it.

  • The three stages of conflict and your own sequence
  • Naming tension early instead of managing around it
  • Repairing a relationship that has hardened
  • Practice on real, current situations

Getting work done through others without abandoning or hovering.

  • Matching level of delegation to capability
  • Setting expectations that don’t need rescuing
  • Holding people to account without a fight
  • Building a team that self-corrects

Making the call, and making the reasoning visible.

  • Clear decision criteria and genuine ownership
  • Recognising your default: speed, caution or consensus
  • Communicating a decision people didn’t want
  • Protecting focus in a reactive environment

Leadership and change management in practice: carrying a team through restructures, growth and uncertainty.

  • What people need at each stage of change
  • Leading when you don’t have all the answers
  • Sustaining energy — yours and theirs
  • Embedding the new way of working

How a programme runs

From first conversation to certificates

The path from enquiry to a cohort that has actually changed how it works.

01

Scoping conversation

Thirty minutes with the sponsor or HR: who the cohort is, what’s not working now, and what success looks like in six months.

02

Module selection

The programme is assembled from the module set and adapted to your language, structures and real situations.

03

SDI® assessments

Every participant completes the assessment online before the first module and receives their personal profile.

04

Delivery

Modules run at your premises, at a Dubai venue or live online, in a small cohort with practice on live situations.

05

Application between modules

Each participant leaves with one commitment to test at work; the next module opens with what happened.

06

Close and handover

Certificates, workbooks, and a short summary for the sponsor covering themes and recommended next steps.

Outcomes

What a cohort takes back to work

Course value shows up in behaviour between meetings, not in the feedback form on the last day.

A shared vocabulary

One language for motive and difference, so disagreement stops being taken personally.

Feedback that actually happens

Managers who raise issues early because they have a structure for doing it.

Fewer escalations upward

Teams resolving friction at their own level instead of routing it to a director.

Delegation that sticks

Work handed over at the right level, with expectations set clearly the first time.

Consistency across the layer

Managers holding a common standard, so the employee experience stops depending on who you report to.

A visible development path

High performers who can see how they’re being invested in — which is what keeps them.

Leadership course, coaching or in-house training?

Ursula Crilly

Ursula is a facilitator, leadership development coach and guide with more than 20 years designing and delivering leadership programmes in demanding corporate and global settings — including airlines, where leading under pressure is part of the job, and multinational organisations where the cost of poor leadership is immediate and visible.

Ursula’s approach starts from a simple belief: people aren’t broken, so the work isn’t about fixing them. She helps leaders rebuild self-trust, set healthy boundaries and lead in ways that protect both their energy and their integrity. Leadership, in her view, is not about power or position — it’s about presence, how people feel around you, and the culture you create when no one is watching.

Dubai & the UAE

Leadership courses in Dubai and across the UAE

Programmes are delivered at your offices anywhere in the UAE, at a venue in Dubai, or live online for distributed teams. Cohorts have run for organisations in DIFC, Business Bay, Dubai Media City, JAFZA and Abu Dhabi.

Scheduling works around operational realities — early-morning sessions before shift handovers, split cohorts for teams that can’t leave the floor at the same time, and virtual modules for participants in other GCC markets.

FAQs

Leadership course questions, answered

Who is this management and leadership training course for?

The course is for newly promoted managers, mid-level leaders managing other managers, high-potential employees being prepared for leadership, technical experts stepping into people roles, and intact teams who want a shared language. Cohorts are kept small — six to twelve people — so everyone works on their own real situations rather than watching from the back.

Formats range from a half-day workshop on a single theme, lasting three to four hours, to a six-module programme over six weeks. The most chosen option is four half-day modules spread across a month, which leaves working time between sessions to apply each theme before the next module begins.

Yes. Every participant receives a certificate of completion, whichever format you choose, along with their personal SDI® profile and a workbook of the frameworks used. The certificate records the course; the profile and workbook are what people keep using back at work.

Our leadership courses in Dubai are practitioner-led rather than university-accredited. They are built on the Strength Deployment Inventory® (SDI®) assessment, a globally recognised motive-based tool, and designed around applied practice on real workplace situations rather than examination. Each participant still receives a certificate of completion.

In person at your premises anywhere in the UAE, at a venue in Dubai, or live online for distributed teams. Hybrid delivery is possible where part of the cohort sits in another market, and sessions can be scheduled around shift patterns and operational demands.

Yes. After a 30-minute scoping conversation with the sponsor or HR, the programme is assembled from the six modules and adapted to your organisation’s language, structures and live situations. If you need something wider — a bespoke in-house leadership programme for your whole organisation rather than a cohort of six to twelve managers — that is a separate service.

A leadership course teaches shared frameworks to a group of six to twelve and moves at the cohort’s pace. Coaching is one-to-one, confidential and shaped entirely by your own situation — see leadership coaching for managers. If you want both, in effect a leadership coaching course, the six-module programme adds optional one-to-one coaching for each participant.

Investment is on request. Each programme is quoted per cohort and depends on group size, the number of modules and the format you choose, with SDI® assessments, workbooks and certificates included for every participant. Share your headcount and timeframe on a free 30-minute discovery call and you’ll receive a written proposal.
