In short

What is executive coaching?

Executive coaching in Dubai is a confidential, one-to-one partnership between a senior leader, such as a CEO, director or founder, and an experienced coach. It focuses on judgement, influence and behaviour at the top of an organisation. The coach doesn’t supply answers; they sharpen the thinking and self-awareness you use to reach your own.

At Start With You, each engagement runs as a six- or twelve-session programme anchored to the Strength Deployment Inventory® (SDI®) motive-based assessment, with optional stakeholder input at the start and close so progress is visible to the business, not just to you. For a longer explanation, read what executive coaching involves in the UAE.

When executives seek coaching

The moments that bring senior leaders here

Executive coaching for CEOs and senior leaders is rarely about a skill gap. It is usually about scale, isolation, or a situation with no obvious right answer.

01

The role got bigger than the playbook

A step up in scope, a merger, a new market — and the approach that built your reputation no longer covers the ground.

02

Fewer people to think out loud with

At this level, candour has a cost. Peers are stakeholders, the team needs certainty, and there’s nowhere neutral to test a half-formed view.

03

A relationship that has hardened

A board member, a co-founder or a peer where every exchange now carries history, and progress has stalled.

04

Decisions with no clean answer

Restructures, exits, succession — choices where every option costs something and the reasoning must hold up afterwards.

05

Visibility without recovery time

You are always on: town halls, boards, media, crisis calls. The performance is sustainable; the pace is not.

06

Succession and legacy

Building leaders who can carry the organisation without you — and being honest about what that means for your own next move.

The approach

A motive-based approach to senior executive coaching

Most executive development starts with behaviour: what you did, and what you might do instead. That produces short-lived change, because behaviour is the symptom rather than the source.

This work starts a layer deeper, with motive. The Strength Deployment Inventory® (SDI®) assessment maps what drives you when things go well, which strengths you overdo, and how you predictably change through three stages of conflict. At executive level that matters more, not less: your pattern under pressure sets the tone for everyone below you.

From there, every session is anchored to something live on your desk. Insight is useful only when it changes the next conversation.

People

Motivated by protecting, supporting and growing others.

Performance

Motivated by results, pace and clear ownership.

Process

Motivated by structure, accuracy and fairness.

Every leader blends all three. Coaching works on the blend — including what happens to it under stress.

Individually we can make a difference, but together we can change the world.

What's included

Inside an executive coaching engagement

Six areas of focus. Most executives draw on three or four, sequenced around what the role is demanding this quarter.

01 Confidential thinking partnership

A neutral space to test decisions before they become announcements.

  • Pressure-test strategy, restructures and people decisions
  • Separate the situation from the story you’re telling about it
  • Rehearse high-stakes conversations before you have them

How you land in a room, a board pack and a crisis.

  • Adapt message and delivery to different stakeholder motives
  • Authority without performance — presence built on your own values
  • Board, town-hall and investor communication under scrutiny

The relationships that consume disproportionate energy.

  • Understand your conflict sequence and the triggers that start it
  • Repair hardened peer and board relationships
  • Hold a position without escalating or conceding

Judgement that holds up when time and information are short.

  • Clarify decision criteria and who genuinely owns the call
  • Notice where speed, caution or consensus is your default
  • Make the reasoning visible so the team can follow it

Building a leadership layer that doesn’t route everything through you.

  • Assess where the team is under-delegated or over-dependent
  • Develop successors deliberately rather than by accident
  • Set a leadership standard the group can actually name

Protecting judgement across long, demanding cycles.

  • Availability, delegation and recovery designed on purpose
  • Early warning signs of depletion, specific to you
  • A way of leading you can hold for the next decade

How it works

The executive coaching process

A defined sequence, so you know exactly what you’re committing to before it starts.

01

Confidential first conversation

Thirty minutes on what’s happening in the role, what you want to be different, and whether coaching is the right instrument. No obligation.

02

SDI® assessment

Completed online and debriefed in full in session one — motives, strengths, overdone strengths and your conflict sequence.

03

Contracting

Goals, cadence, confidentiality and, for sponsored engagements, exactly what the organisation is and isn’t told. Agreed in writing.

04

Stakeholder input (optional)

Short conversations with two or three people around you to establish a baseline the business recognises.

05

The coaching cycle

Sessions every two to three weeks, each anchored to a live decision, relationship or event.

06

Review and close

Return to the original goals, capture what changed, and set the practices that continue once coaching ends.

Outcomes

What changes at executive level

Insight without application is just information. These are the shifts senior leaders name most often at review.

Decisions made once

Clearer criteria, less relitigating, and reasoning your leadership team can follow and repeat.

Harder conversations, held earlier

Performance, boundaries and succession addressed while they are still small.

A steadier response under scrutiny

You recognise the trigger, name the shift, and choose the response instead of defaulting to it.

Stakeholders who feel heard

Influence built on understanding what actually motivates each person in the room.

A leadership team that self-corrects

Shared language for difference means friction resolves without escalating to you.

Capacity you can sustain

Boundaries and delegation designed deliberately, so judgement holds through long cycles.

Choosing the right support

Executive coaching, mentoring,
consulting or therapy?

Before choosing the best executive coaching for you, check that coaching is what you need.

FAQs

Executive coaching questions, answered

Executive coaching vs leadership coaching: what's the difference?

The method is the same; the altitude differs. Executive coaching works with leaders carrying organisational scale, such as P&L ownership, board exposure, restructures and succession, where decisions are less reversible and there are fewer people to think out loud with. If you are a new or mid-level manager, leadership coaching for managers and team leaders is the better fit.

Executive coaching in Dubai with Start With You is quoted as a programme rather than per hour, covering the SDI® assessment, session time, support between sessions and, where included, stakeholder input. Fees vary with programme length and whether your organisation sponsors the work. You receive a written proposal after the first conversation. Our guide explains how executive coaching fees are set.

Yes. Where an organisation sponsors the coaching, we agree the reporting boundary in writing before we begin: typically attendance and progress against agreed goals, never session content. You see and approve that agreement first. Confidentiality is part of the written contract at the start of every engagement, whoever is paying for it.

The six-session programme focuses on one defined executive priority; the twelve-session programme runs across four to six months. Sessions are spaced two to three weeks apart. Senior leaders often continue on a lighter cadence afterwards, with a session a quarter to stay honest with themselves during periods of change.

Yes. Sessions run online for leaders based in the wider GCC, Europe and Asia, following the same structure as in-person coaching, and in person at our JLT office when you are in Dubai. Scheduling accommodates travel-heavy calendars, including early-morning and evening slots.

Yes. Board and leadership team programmes combine individual SDI® assessments with facilitated sessions that surface how the team makes decisions, handles disagreement and holds one another to account, followed by individual coaching where it will help most. For organisation-wide programmes, see in-house leadership training and team coaching.

Most executive issues are both. Coaching handles the situation in front of you — the stakeholder who blocks, the peer relationship that has hardened, the succession conversation you keep deferring — alongside the pattern in you that shapes how you meet it.

Goals are defined in observable terms at the outset: the decision made differently, the relationship repaired, the meeting run another way. Where the organisation is involved, brief stakeholder input at the start and close gives an external read alongside your own.
